Her Power Pack: A Holiday Purse Drive for IPV Survivors in the Greater Toronto Area
By Samantha Russell · November 2025 · 3 min read
The holiday season is a time of giving, connection, and warmth — but for survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV), it can also be one of the most difficult and isolating times of the year. At One Stop Therapy Shop, we believe that small acts of care can carry enormous power.
That's why we launched Her Power Pack — an annual holiday purse drive dedicated to collecting and distributing quality handbags filled with essential items to women and families escaping abusive situations.
What Is Her Power Pack?
Her Power Pack is a community-driven initiative where we collect gently used or new handbags and fill them with everyday essentials — personal hygiene products, a journal and pen, transit tokens, snacks, a resource card, and a handwritten note of encouragement. Each pack is donated to local shelters and organizations supporting survivors in the Greater Toronto Area.
Why Purses?
A purse is more than an accessory — it's a symbol of autonomy and readiness. Many survivors leave their situations with nothing. Having a bag packed with essentials gives them a sense of dignity and practical support as they begin their journey toward safety and independence.
How to Participate
- —Donate a gently used or new handbag
- —Donate essential items to fill the packs
- —Spread the word using #HerPowerPack
- —Make a monetary donation to help us purchase supplies
